TCAC推出2019全新帶狀節目《女頭目的未來學》,第一回合由藝術家王佩瑄帶來從2016年開始持續進行發展中的創作《You Are My Sunshine》。藝術家從對自身週遭環境的直覺性感知出發,視家族離散經驗與姪女亮亮相處的片段為起點,轉化異奇生物半成形雕塑,與追逐遊戲的家族紀錄式影像組成的奇異星系。在這個世界裡,物件與物件間,物件與影像間若有似無的連結是曖昧的,有機的,更多時候是關於乎於觀者自身的接收與解讀的過程。出現在影像中糾纏與移動,也暗喻著遷徙,家族母系的傳承與個人主體的拉扯。如同她命名視九歲姪女亮亮為分身的持續進行的計畫《注定穿越》所叩問的,該如何辨認常常由國家與文化為界線劃定的身份認同中的錯置與陌生?
由陳璽安主持的開幕對談圍繞在王佩瑄的近年作品,以及她和姪女如何作為共同創作者,探索一種從「陽光/囚徒」而展開的關係。王佩瑄追尋姪女Iris的目光,而女孩則創作她和她的關係。影片中,這層關係遊走在虛構和現實結構中。王佩瑄的作品尋找一種外部性,但找到外部不必然非得拔高,企圖超越什麼目標。無盡盡於內——王佩瑄要求我們下潛,讓視線沉到成年人腰部的高度,進而發現各種未知的已知。她讓《你是我的陽光》由開放的文本和一場場的追尋組成。
⤞關於藝術家⤝
王佩瑄關注以頻繁跨國遷徙現象為常態的世界中,私密個人經歷與主流既定敘事集之間的錯綜關係與參照差異。 肖像(portraiture)、風景(landscape)、移動的個體(moving bodies)這些觀念如何匯合、形成新的故事領域?藉由物件的塑造、材料實驗與(移動)圖像的處理,去除和重新組裝以及協調元素單件在空間中的相互關係,想像出詩意的場景,其中自有的邏輯換喻、多敘事軸線相互推動和拉動,勾勒出流動的主體身份。
作品曾在台北美術館(台北美術獎)、鳳甲美術館(負地平線:台灣國際錄像展)、印尼國家美術館(雅加達陶瓷雙年展)等展出。於2018年進駐紐約的ISCP(International Studio & Curatorial Program)、韓國光州的亞洲文化中心(ACC, Asia Culture Center),並將進駐荷蘭的Rijksakademie。

⤞關於陳璽安⤝
陳璽安的思辨寫作曾於2015受推薦獲摩納哥皮埃爾王子基金會的當代藝術寫作獎,目前為北京長征計劃研究員。他近期共同策劃的項目包括「長征計劃:違章建築三——特區」(北京長征空間、廣東時代美術館,2018)、「行星馬克思」(2019)等。
⤞女頭目的未來學:母系‧生產‧生態⤝
TCAC推出2019全新帶狀節目《女頭目的未來學》,以系列展覽與公眾參與活動帶領觀眾想像:母系的生產將如何領導與批判科技與資本主義治理的社會。我們希望在超越邊界的前提下討論唐納‧哈洛威談的女性「類同」。以此為背景,《女頭目的未來學》重新檢視第四波女性主義中科技對女性賦權的樂觀,以及馬克思女性主義與生態女性主義的方法學。
參展藝術家多在網路時代成長,其中有些擁有身為離散族群的生命軌跡,他們享受60-70年代的女性主義運動成果,但仍弔詭地在生命歷程中面對不同程度的性別暴力。跨文化的背景使他們將性別權力的討論延伸到不同的空間,包括情動、個人歷史、去殖民、環境生態。參展藝術家以個人敘事回應本展的潛在台詞: 「如果不成為母親,女性藝術家如何面對女性認同相關的藝術生產?」母系回應父權暴力的方式,絕不是生理、同質、抽象、排除他者的。我們希望女頭目透過各種「跨」,來化身為溝通者與預言者,連結男子、女人、酷兒、移民、非人類。或者說,女頭目的預言,是一個包容跨物種的未來生態系統。

In 2019 TCAC is launching a new program called Female Avatars’ Futurist Statement. The first exhibition You Are My Sunshine by artist Wang Pei-Hsuan is her developing body of work since 2016. Taking her intuitive perception toward current situation and surroundings as a starting point, Wang transformed her family’s migratory experience and the time she spent with her 9-year-old niece Iris into an uncanny constellation of artworks, which composed with unfinished sculptures of alien creature, as well as footages of her home video. In this world, the relations between objects and sculptures, between sculptures and moving-images are indeterminate and organic. They are more referred to the process of receiving and interpreting the meaning by the audience. Yet, the movement and the act of bonding in the video reveal the unsettling understanding on matrilineage, migration and conflicting identity. Wang views her niece as an alter ego, and continuously develops the project Meant to Passing Through. She asks: how do we identify ourselves among the misplacement and strangeness when identity is created by drawing the boundaries of nations and cultures.
For the opening talk, artist Wang Pei-Hsuan and writer Zian Chen would start from the artist’s recent practice, and how she and her niece crafted such a playful relationship, “you are my sunshine,” “you are my prisoner”. Wang Pei-Hsuan traces steps of her niece Iris for a generously dosed sunshine. In turn, Iris would mould her into a piece of work in an intimate form. In the video, the relationship is revealed through fiction and reality. The artist seeked for the outside, without stepping beyond trivialities, as there are unknowns in the knowns. You Are My Sunshine is an open text consists of the hide and seek between the photographed and the photographer.

In her practice, Wang reflects on the intricate ties between private experiences and the established narrative set in a world characterized by rapid transnational movement. She is interested in territories where ideas of portraiture, landscape, and migrating bodies converge. Through object construction, material and (moving) image manipulation, processes of des- and re-assemblement, and orchestrating things’ relationships in space, she imagines poetic scenarios in which unique constellations of logic and storylines push and pull against one another, gradually forming shifting identities of their own.
Wang has exhibited work at Taipei Fine Arts Museum; Hong-Gah Museum, Taipei, and National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta, among others. She was resident at International Studio and Curatorial Program (iscp) in New York and Asia Culture Center in Gwangju, South Korea, 2018. She will be a guest resident at the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam in 2019.

⤞Zian Chen⤝
Zian Chen works in various forms of fanfictions, and has been nominated with Contemporary Art Writing and Critical Thinking Award by Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco in 2015. He serves as researcher for Long March Project, Beijing. His recent collaborative projects include: Long March Project: Building Code Violations III––Special Economic Zone (Long March Space, Beijing and Guangdong Times Museum, 2018), and Planet Marx (2019), among others.
⤞Female Avatars’ Futurist Statement: Matrilineage, Production, Ecosystem⤝
In 2019 TCAC is launching a new program called Female Avatars’ Futurist Statement. Through this series of exhibitions and public workshops, we hope to unite leaders and art workers who share a vision of matrilineal production. Reflecting on the dominance of information technology and capitalism, which hinder genuine equality and diversity in our society, we look for new directions for feminist “affinities” across borders. Female Avatars’ Futurist Statement cautiously examines the techno-optimism embedded in the fourth-wave feminist movement, and perspectives inspired by Marxist Feminism and Ecofeminism.
Participating artists grew up in the information age, and many of them experienced diaspora. They enjoyed the achievement of feminist movements in the 1960s and 1970s, which, however, do not guarantee a world without gender violence. Their cross-cultural backgrounds enable them to extend the discussion about gender power to various aspects regarding affect, personal histories, decoloniality, and ecosystem. Their individual narratives respond to the underlying note of the exhibition: “How does a [woman] artist cope with [her] practice without being a mother?” Art of the so-called “maternal lineage” does not refer to sex- and gender-specific products, nor is it homogenous, exclusive, or instrumentalized. The future avatars have to be communicators and prophets who can form an alliance with men, women, queer people, immigrants, and non-humans. Thus, this futurist statement delineates an ecosystem that accommodates all species.
