2013.01.27：Grand Opening of new TCAC | TCAC新基地 盛大開幕

Being nomad for almost half a year, TCAC has finally found a new space. Sincerely welcome your presence in the Grand Opening of new TCAC !

 

TCAC was founded in Feb., 2010. It is an art space run independently by a group of contemporary artists, curators, scholars and  cultural workers. In the beginning it was located in a four-storied building in Ximending in downtown Taipei as the base of a pioneering project that lasted for 2 years. During the 2 years, TCAC not only organized exhibitions of art works, screenings, music and art performances, talks, symposiums , forums, publishing events, but also built a database of Taiwanese artists and professional art workers to be used for research by international professional art workers. Besides activities organized by ourselves, we also opened our space to experimental or periferal young creators to voice themselves.

 

In the end of 2-year experimental period (2010-2012), we bid farewell to the large-scale space running mode, fermenting new plans in a homeless but mobile situation, looking for possibilities of funding and space in difficulties. The environment of cultural production can’t be changed in a short time. Facing production, we need to create more possibilities. It signifies the restructuring and renewal of organization forms and resources management and a development of a more focused executive policy. This year, we will concentrate on the public issues of “space politics” and ” “art institution” as the main concern of our research and periodic project and focus more on a close cooperation with domestic and international institutes and professional art workers, expecting that TCAC will become a small but flexible space for education, projects, researches and publishing.

 

TCAC’s new space is situated in a corner close to Zhongxiao Fuxing metro station, surrounded by Breeze Center, SOGO Fuxing shopping districts and Liaoning Street Night Market. It will become an intermediate, brand-new portal among the 3 noisy districts in the neighborhood of an old, quiet and secluded area. In a tiny, 2-storied space of approximately 165 square meters, the database of contemporary art will be reopened and will invite domestic and international researchers and curators to be based here to do their researches and publish their works. Small-scale forums, performances, salon talks and various formal, informal gatherings, publishing and experimental projects will go on too. The new phase will deepen the public, aesthestic issues by self-orgainzed, or invited issue-oriented talks. We will change the way we orgainzed exhibitions in a large space. Depending on the form of projects, TCAC will cooperate with various domestic and international institutes and transform its “exhibition” into a more precise, efficient, and mobile project model.

 

TCAC keeps its initial intent as it was just founded, making use of the public resources of the art scene to offer an open platform for art and cultural groups. And the cooperation begins in a mobile mode of different groups’ self-organization. We look forward to seeing our old and new friends to join the grand opening of new TCAC, visiting the new base of TCAC with blessings of “long time no see.” Welcome to bring your good projects fermented for long to discuss with us!
