(The Song of the Machines, 2012),如同其作品混合了繪畫、物件、裝置、錄像與表演等等多重形式,試圖探索機器與能量的概念,並描繪出一個可能的美好明日。

Speakers: Heidi Voet, Charwei Tsai & Aimee Lin, Yu-Chen Wang & Andro Semeiko

The role of the art publication, as mere documentation of artworks, has changed into one where the function of the publication can greatly vary. The publication is the artwork or serves as a curated platform where the artists’ work becomes a collaborative piece with the writing of novelists or academics. Throughout these variations, artists propose new models to establish research and collaboration.

TCAC is pleased to invite three groups of artists and content makers to present their approach to the art publication. Starting from Heidi Voet’s recently publication project ONE IN MANY, the discussion will explore the artistic practice and its alternative insight provided by the printed matters. Conventional publications on paper demand a slow and “physical” distribution of the information, where the Internet challenges these aspects of dissemination, enabling information to spread fast and cheap. This affects the way artists choose to communicate their concepts through publication. Heidi Voet will explain her concept of and methodology in ONE IN MANY. A video clip, created by curator and artist Mathieu Borysevicz, will be presented in response to the book.

Lovely Daze, founded and published by artist Charwei Tsai, is a curatorial journal featuring writings and artworks by artists. Tsai and her guest speaker Aimee Lin, editor of ArtReview Asia, will discuss on the difference between the commercial art magazine and the artist-initiated “artzine”: the strategy, the approach and the practice.

Yu-Chen Wang and Andro Semeiko will present their recent publications. Wang will talk about a quasi-fictional artist book, The Song of the Machines (2012), featuring stories about her life and artistic practice. Reality and fiction are blurred through the display of new work, documentation, critical texts and creative writing. Semeiko will talk about his artist books that are part of his research about multi-layered visual narrative. Unveiling: Rocket MT2010 (2010) is a humorous satire based on the British history. The Holy Triangle (2013) mixes visual metaphors employing the wordsmithing skills of two novelists, while TAP (2014) is an exploration of a creative practitioner’s journey of thought.

Andro Semeiko
Andro Semeiko is a Georgian born and London-based artist. Semeiko explores ways of constructing multi-layered stories. He composes site-responsive painterly installations that narrate or construct a theatrical mise-en-scene. They call upon the language and devices of satire, absurd, sci-fi and meta-fiction through collaboration with writers and performers. His collaborators include outstanding novelists, journalists, cognitive scientists, linguists, art historians, curators, theatre directors and actors. Semeiko has exhibited internationally including in the UK, France, Italy, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Georgia, Turkey, Russia and USA.
