Fellas’ Karaoke Bar
Time: May 23 (Sat), 1-4pm
Venue: Taipei Contemporary Art Center
Participants: Lee Juin-Yang, Yao Jui-Chung, Hsu Tsun-Hsu, Dawang Huang
Dawang Huang’s project “Time Travel into the 60s Oldies” in the TCAC’s reopening exhibition retraces the artist’s personal memories of Dadoucheng area. Through his song selection from the 50s and 60s local oldies and the opening DJ performance, he delineates the landscape overlapped by the historical contexts of these particular Taiwanese cover versions of Japanese folk songs as well as the local urban dynamics. In the juxtaposition of street views and sounds, he extracts the impressions from his brain while connecting the stories of the local people and places. The second part of this project will take form as a Karaoke gathering and a conversation with his fella friends in the coming weekend event “Fella’s Karaoke Bar.” Through his singing action, an undefined intervention or participation will interrogate the methodology that contemporary artists employ for research and constructing social dialogues, and the potentials or considerations that TCAC should bear in its new mapping in the neighborhood.
Dawang invites artists Lee Juin-Yang, Yao Jui-Chung and Hsu Tsun-Hsu who have long-term experiences in conducting various field research in their personal artistic practice to join this gathering and conversation. The event will take places in two different venues: from 1:00 to 2:20, the Karaoke session will take place in Three Sisters, a Karaoke diner located also in Baoan Street, and the conversation will move back to TCAC from 2:30 to 4:00.
*Due to the venue capacity, the first session will open only 5 seats for audience’s live participation. For those who wish to sing together with Dawang, please send your RSVP request to: office@tcac.tw as soon as possible. TCAC will also host a live stream on site for those who cannot participate in the Three Sisters diner to have a second live Karaoke site.
