Queen Me
Audiences at Queen Me feel like they’re at a party, but there is a serious undercurrent to this performance. The artists hope to launch a discussion regarding the body and the politics of display in the tourism and entertainment industry, and compel us to view these issues in the context of modern society under a global capitalist system. The guest performers, who all work professionally as entertainers, will draw from personal experience to create unique expressions through movement. In looking at the intersection of culture, tradition, gender and body symbols, the performance encourages us to ask: In an age overwhelmed by digital media, how do we maintain a sense of uniqueness as we ponder life and the meaning of existence?
